Biography
Lauretta Crites is an American textile artist based in Porto, Portugal. Her work combines fabric, paint, and dense machine stitching to create layered pieces that explore place, memory, and attention.
Grounded in close attention to her surroundings, the work develops through observation and construction, with narrative emerging through material and process.
Prior to her fine art practice, she spent over a decade working in costume production with the Los Angeles Opera as a costume assistant, later serving as assistant costume director, an experience that continues to inform her approach to material, structure, and visual clarity.
